Introduction...
Welcome to the Mysts - a page dedicated to the famous women of Mythology. The good, the bad, and the strange will all (hopefully) be here in good time.

Please note that I am basically doing Greek and Roman mythology right now - it is hard to take on too many all at once. These are the "basic" mythologies that most-all people know. I will be focusing on the "famous" women, female monsters, and goddesses.

Before you read, it should be known that women of mythology did not get the "attention" that men did. Yes, some women who were famous - Helen and so forth - are well-known and even known to most people today. However, most people throughout mythology are not so lucky.

Abiguity is a major factor in mythology. Sometimes the mothers of monsters, heros, ect. are unknown. Very rarely is the father unknown - this shows how the social structures were built around men. Though the liniage of most women is known, again the unknown factor comes into play. In some works, the mother and father are cited as one thing, and in other works different names appear.

The reason I introduce you with this is simple enough: when reading these "tales" be sure to note that there might be different variations of it. I try to acquire all the different variations, but there is no gaureuntee.
