Your first steps into the desert are easy, although it is quite hot. You shudder to think how hot it would be if the sun was at its peak, as the wolf told you. You hurry along and are surprised to see that these areas are populated! Who would want to live here, of all places?
The fluttering of wings makes you stop, looking around for its source. Unfortunately, the sun is too bright and you cannot see into the sky very well.
"There's no use looking for me up there, wanderor." You turn and see a huge brown creature with green wings; he seems amused by your prescence.
"I see you've brought water with you, that's always good to have," he says quietly. "But I have to wonder why you're walking along this part of the desert's edge. It'll take you forever to get through to the Valley."
"Valley...?" you say. "But the mountains..."
He laughs. "Oh, you're heading for them? We'll your on the wrong edge. If you keep this up, you'll end up in the valley. The mountains are much closer, and so are the meadows. But you'll have to go that way." He points a paw to the left. "Follow the creatures, that's what I say. If there's nothing living there, that ought to tell you something about the place. The names Valen, by the way."
