The path finally breaks into a clearing that seems to be about five times as wide as the path you came on. Looking around, you hear paws in the ground, and find that there is a burning red canine sitting in front of you now.
"You may not pass," he says.
You look past him, with his wings and two tails, and see that there is another path on the side of the clearing, but it's only just visible to you. He's not terribly large, but he does have wings and looks to be rather ruthless.
You survey your options. You can try to sneak past him, run around him, or talk to him. None of them seem very promising, but neither does turning back.

Run for the opposite end of the clearing
Ask him, "How can I get around you, then?"
