Vorend shakes her head as she walks the next few paces to the next door. "I am sorry about them. We're about to meet most of their children, who I shall say quiet bluntly are much more polite than them."
You ask, "These are King and Queen's children?"
"Yes, we are!" says a pink mutt. "Welcome. I am Kanvana, the rank of Princess, of the royal mutts."
You repeat, "Ranks...?"
A laugh makes you turn around.
"Of course we have ranks," says a grey mutt. "I am Jezabal, royal mutt, with the rank of Archer. Without ranks, how would we be able to find out place in our families? After all, we were all born in the same litter; it's nothing at all like human birth and such."
Despite the fact that the grey mutt was rather snappy with you, you can see why Vorend likes this set better. As you approach the door to enter, all four of them walk over to sit in seats that make a circle, allowing you to see them all.
One of the mutts here is also wearing a cape. When you introduce yourself, he says, "Welcome, wanderor of the Wood. I am Kung, rank of King, of the royal mutts. I am the highest ranking of all my siblings, even dear old Princie, who our parents favor."
Jezabal says, "Because her head isn't nearly as inflated as yours is."
Kung casts her a stern look, but she only laughs. "I don't have to take orders from you, remember! Dad's still alive."
"Ehhhheeee," says another male voice. "I see you're the wanderor that all this hub-bub is about, eh?"
This mutt, too, is showing a bone, but his expression is shrewd and stiff. He seems a lot less like his siblings than you expected. His laugh is lower and he seems much more devious.
"I suppose," you reply.
He smiles. "Call me Thief, of the rank thief, of the royal mutts. I prefer, of course, being called Thief for short."
Kung glares at him. "I am surprised you qualify as a royal mutt..." he growls.
Vorend puts a stop to their bickering before you trot off with her. "Well, time to go up more stairs. We're going to the third floor!" she sounds absolutely delighted.
