You walk on in the meadow much farther than you have before without meeting anyone. The groups seem to be more and more spread apart now that you approach the central area. It makes sense, though, as there is plenty of space to spread out.
"Ahoy there!" cries a unicorn with a shock of purple-styled mane overhead. She thunders over to you from a hill from behind. As you turn to her, she bounces up and down between her trots and stops directly in front of you.
"Call me Jerigolind," she says happily, "and welcome to the best part of the meadow!" She flourishes and lands gracefully, but there is a sense of anticlimax.
"Er," you reply, "what part of the meadow is that?"
She sighs and says, "The middle of the Mellow Meadow, duh."
She turns and calls over her shoulder, but you can't hear what she says. Perhaps she is calling to someone else?
She is! In no time at all, a brilliantly white-and-rainbow unicorn with a shock of blue mane and tail gallops over, skidding to a halt in front of both of you.
"You called, Jeri?" asks the male unicorn in a clever, swift voice.
"Yes, Cad, I did," she says to him. She turns and points her horn at you and continues, "This wanderer doesn't know about the mellow meadow or anything!"
Unlike Jeri, Cad doesn't seem to think this is that unusual. He turns to you and says, "My name is Cadendaclya, but some people call me just plain Cad. Anyway, the Mellow Meadow is know for its lack of weather, so all the creatures can camp out here, in the middle of it, without fear of storm or otherwise. It's awesome." He pauses. "But, honestly, why a wanderer would know that is beyond me! I mean, you don't live here, right?"
There is a wooshing sound and a clatter of hooves-on-dirt. You look and see two brilliant alicorns, one fire-red and the other ice-blue. They're both smaller than the unicorns and seem to be younger.
"Not all wanderers stay wanderers!" cries the red alicorn.
"We used to wanderer here, but we've settled," explains the blue alicorn in a slow, male voice.
They both take a moment and then say, "Hello." After an awkward pause, the red alicorn says, "I am Moewien, an dthis is Haedith." Her voice is steady but still a little short.
Cad shakes his head, "Wanderering creatures do sometimes stay here, but didn't you originally come to settle here?"
Haedith replies, "Yes, actually..." Both of the alicorns seem uncomfortable, and in a flash they're off in flight. Jeri and Cad run after them, chasing their shadows thrown from above.
