You hear some noise ahead of you, and Vorend walks toward it. "I imagine," she says, "that they knew we're coming."
"Who?" you ask.
Vorend gives you a mischievious smile. "The next group of mutts. They've got good hearing and a few spies, to say the least, and they'll be glad to meet you. I suspect they're making all the racket because we've taken so long."
"Indeed, that is part of it," says a soft female voice. Vorend presses the door open to reveal a room of two sets of mutts you never thought you'd see together.
The speaker is a brown mutt with an Egyptian symbol bestowed upon her neck. She sits by a beige colored mutt of the same kind, who also bares an Egyptian marking. Opposite them, however, are two darker colored mutts wearing spiked collars.
Vorend laughs. "Those two," she says, pointing to the two Egyptian mutts, "are Egyptius and Prygyption." They both incline their heads in a nod of welcome.
"And I'm Spikalicious," says another mutt; this one is wearing a spiked collar. You now also notice that her leg is bone, literally. She catches your eye and gives you a toothy grin. "You see, here, wanderor, my bone is exposed. Oh, it is a thrilling story, but I shall not tell it to you. I came here, with my mate..."
She turns and nods to him, as if introducing him. He is a lighter color grey than she is, and his legs show no bone.
"...Spikar." She smiles.
Spikar steps forward and gives you a toothy grin. "I can only wish you well, for I have no gifts for a wanderor. But please do come back and visit us, it shall make us all happy."
You ask, "Vorend told me you had spies. Who...?"
Before you can finish, however, they all laugh. Spikar is the one who finally speaks after a few minutes of hard breathing. "I wouldn't call them 'spies', but Vorend has always used rather colorful words for us. But we're keeping that secret, because we want to be to keep these... err... 'spies' to help us." He smiles at Vorend.
