The path widens and the brambles on either side seem to thin out as you keep going. You can hear running water and even see a distant, hazy line that could be mountains. As you pace forward, a creature shyly pokes his head out of the bushes.
"Hi," he says in a very quiet voice. "Are you going to the mountains?"
You nod and he steps out onto the path so you can see that his tail ends in a flower. "My name is Medesho. I've lived in the Mountains before. I just wanted to warn you that it can be very rocky there... it's not a great place to settle down. Nice for hikes, though," he adds.
"Hikes? HIKES! Hikes..." come two very similar voices from above your head. You look up with Medesho and see two small dracnoic creatures. They have rather bug-like wings. As they buzz over head, they repeate the word "hikes" over and over.
"What do you two want?" asks Medesho in a calm, controlled voice.
The red one stops and hovers in mid-air as the green one flutters around. "You ground-walkers and your hikes, they're silly!"
They both flutter away, as if this was a normal exchange.
A small cough makes you turn. A brown, cat-like creature steps out and looks at you with her big eyes. "Hello," she says in a voice much louder than Medesho's. "My name is Piluhi."
There is a pause, and you realize you should probably introduce yourself. After a hurried introduction, Piluhi bows and says, "Welcome, wanderer."
She step back and points to the end of the path, "If you head that way, you're sure to get to the Mountains immediately. I'm not sure you can get to all of them. However, if you'd rather head back to the beginning of the Jungle, I can take you very quickly. You won't have to rewalk the entire path. What do you say?"
She steps behind you and nods to Medesho, who returns to the bushes. His tail makes him blend in with the bush quite nicely.
