You're surprised that you've never thought of bugs (or bug-like creatures) as a part of the Wood. In the Orchard, they seem to be everywhere. The next two creatures you come across, while slightly bigger, both seem to be buglike in appearance.
The first of the two is a deep red with blue wings and rubies within them. She looks like a stern creature and like someone you would not want to cross. You promptly, and politely, introduce yourself to them both, and she smiles.
"I am Ruby Racing Rage," she says, quite boldly for someone so small, "I see you're looking at the fruit. Have you ever had it?" She points to the odd blue fruits on the trees.
"No," you reply.
The one next to her speaks, "Call me Diamond Dare Devil... That fruit....It is a kind of berry, although rather large for one. It starts green, then turns to orange, and then blue. Too bad none of these are ready for eating, they have a great flavor."
"What do they taste like?" you ask.
They both smile, "Whatever you want it to taste like. That's a rare magic at work, and these fruits, all of them, ripen year round. There is no need for winter to renew the trees. Every few weeks there are more berries. That is why so many can live here."
Ruby speaks again, "You see, we came here because we were told it was the perfect place for smaller creatures, as it does have a good deal of protection. We, however, did not know about the extraordinary berries of life here."
